ICP's Print Study Room is temporarily closed to the public.
The International Center of Photography’s collections support research across various disciplines, making it one of the premier institutions for studying photography and those seeking open-access art.
With more than 200,000 photographic prints, negatives, and related materials, ICP’s Collections contain multiple histories of photography for those looking to study photojournalism. We hold major archives from renowned photojournalists including Robert Capa, Gerda Taro, and Cornell Capa. You can explore Weegee’s quirky vision of New York City in the 1930s and 40s or David Seidner’s unique perspective on fashion and portraiture from the 1980s and 90s. ICP also has major holdings by Chim (David Seymour), Susan Meiselas, Martin Munkacsi, and W. Eugene Smith. Learn more about historical events in the AIDS Graphics, Hiroshima, LIFE Magazine, and September 11 Collections. ICP’s collections are significant photography resources for those conducting in-depth photography journals.
ICP also has rich resources for photography, including holdings of images of everyday life. This includes nineteenth- and early twentieth-century portraits of African Americans and family albums and postcards that were exchanged among friends and family. In addition to contemporary and vintage prints, the Collections also have a wealth of early- to mid-twentieth-century photographically illustrated magazines from around the world.
