Biography

For nearly four decades, American photojournalist Marvin Koner, traveled the world photographing the people, places and personalities that shaped the latter half of the 20th century. Koner first became fascinated the the camera as an instrument of personal expression while serving as a First Lieutenant in the Army's Photo Intelligence Unit during the Second World War. After his service he returned to New York to study under Alexy Brodovitch, the pioneering graphic designer and art director of Harper's Bazaar. He also was celebrated for a series of photo essays commissioned by Fortune Magazine. ICP's collection includes both documentary projects and a range of portraits of political and cultural figures of the 1950s and 60s.
